Attention Phalene Fanciers:

Please join us for an informal gathering of fellow Phalene breeders/exhibitors and fanciers.  The PCA’s Phalene committee is interested in hearing your thoughts and ideas for ways to enhance the recognition and appreciation of our special variety, including the idea of separating the classes at future National Specialties into erect and drop ears classes.  We are also looking for new ideas for future Phalene events.  The meeting will be held from 7:00-8:00 PM on Friday April 25th, in the Monocacy Room #105 immediately following the “Mastering the Moth-A Study of the Phalene” judges education event.  You do not need to be a PCA member to attend.

Eye Clinic
The Papillon Club of America is excited to offer CERF testing by ACVO Board Certified veterinary ophthalmologist Dr Nancy Bromberg. Testing will be done on Friday April 25th at the National Specialty in Fredrick, MD. Time: late afternoon thru the early evening.

Location: to be posted at hotel

*****There is a minimum of 50 dogs need to hold this event at the National. Pre-registration is required. Please contact Robin Kost at rokenda@hotmail.com or by telephone at 301-292-5998 if you want to sign up. The closing date for sign up will be April 3rd.****

The cost of this exam will be $27 per dog. Please take advantage of this convenient opportunity to get your testing done on all the dogs brought to the Specialty.

The Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF) is an organization whose main goal is to provide ophthalmic examinations, education, and a centralized, national registry to help eliminate inherited eye disease in purebred dogs.

Regular CERF eye exams (annual is preferred) are recommended.

It is preferable to do CERF testing prior to any female being bred to decrease the likelihood of undiagnosed genetic disease being passed on to the offspring. Annual eye exams and documentation of that exam through CERF will help to eliminate inherited genetic eye diseases in our breed.

Papillon Health Clinic

This is a chance to have your dogs obtain all CHIC tests while at the National!!

The Papillon Health Clinic: CERF, Heart Auscultation, Patella Luxation Exam, Microchipping

Become included in the CHIC program.   A CHIC number is issued to each Papillon that has completed all the above tests, has a permanent ID, and has submitted the required OFA forms.

CHIC: The Canine Health Information Center is a centralized canine health database jointly sponsored by the AKC/Canine Health Foundation (AKC/CHF) and the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).  The goal of CHIC is to create a large database of dogs that have been tested or evaluated for a Parent-Club-determined group of health problems.

The Patellar Luxation and the Cardiac Databases are for dogs 12 months and over. Examinations performed on dogs less than 12 months will be treated as Consultations and no OFA breed numbers will be assigned. Evaluation of dogs under 12 months of age is encouraged if the owner desires to breed at this age.
