Doodles
was a precocious puppy,
always into mischief,
ever ready to please.
His
career
was launched at eight
weeks – where
at his first fun match,
not yet leash
broken
he won the toy group!
When he
went Best
in Match at five months
of age, the handler who put him up
said, "Mary Jo,
I want to be the first
to tell you this
dog
will be great
someday".
He was at
ringside nine
months later when
Doodles achieved his
first American Best in
Show.
Two months
earlier he had moved his
way into the
Canadian center stage.
Doodles was now
the
first Papillon in
history to
achieve all
breed Best in Shows in
the United States
and Canada, and he was
barely fourteen
months
old !
In the obedience ring he
was nicknamed "The
Precision Clockwork
Mouse".
He finished his
Canadian CD with three
High in
Trial awards, along with
three BOB’s and a
Group III.
Doodles became
the first Papillon to
win a BIS with an
obedience title
and as of 2005 remains
the highest titled
obedience Pap ( with a
CDX ) to go Best In Show.
Doodles was paving the
way for future
generations of Papillons
in the conformation
ring.
He finished his
titles in both countries
while still a young
puppy and garnered group
placements along the
way.
This was in the
very early 70’s and
Papillons were
still rare and usually
by-passed in the Group
ring.
He was truly a
tremendous showman who
responded to almost
silent
commands.
He stood 9 ¼
inches at the shoulder
and weighed a mere 4 ¾
pounds but he was a
powerhouse in the ring.
A multiple group and
Best In Show winner in
both countries, Doodles
capped a brilliant
career when he came out
of retirement
to
win the 1977 PCA
National Specialty from
the Veteran class.
He then proceeded
to become the first
Papillon to win the Toy
Group and go on to Best
in Show.
It was his third
in the states after nine
Group wins – an
amazing average for
those days !
Doodles was a Sire of
Distinction.
His kids won
groups and he sired the
second American &
Canadian BIS winner.
Doodles
appears in the pedigrees
of nearly half the
American Best in Show
winners.
He was my constant
companion and soul mate
and to this day I still
miss him.
"In
the lives of your
offspring your spirit
lives on, but they’ll
never replace you now
that you’re gone".
