I showed Hunter for a
while and then Myrtle,
who had shown Marksman,
asked if
she could have
Hunter on a
co-ownership and
she would undertake to
show him.
The ‘die was
cast’ and Hunter went
to live
with Myrtle ( with lots of home
visits ).
Hunter was a little dog
that just sparkled, both
in and out of the ring.
It seemed as if
everyone loved him but,
perhaps, none
so much as Myrtle.
Hunter really
came alive for her and
admirers at the shows
always surrounded the
two of them.
Hunter’s show career
started with a Best
Puppy in Match and
continued on to his
being the breed’s
FIRST Papillon to win
both
a
PCA Sweepstakes
and Best of Breed at the
same National Specialty
( 1975 ).
In those days the
National was held in
conjunction with an all
breed show. Hunter went
on to win a Group II
that day.
In 1976 Hunter went to
about 35 or 36 shows
during the year but his
all breed Best in Show
and Group wins and
placements
were
sufficient to make him
the Number One Papillon
for the year in both PCA
and Kennel Review point
systems.
Hunter
was also the proud
recipient of the Golden
Butterfly Award.
The Huntsman was also
the first Papillon ever
to go Best in Show west
of the Mississippi and
the first to gain
multiple group
wins in California.
Used on a very limited
basis, he sired several
nice champions and of
course,
the
outstanding BIS/BISS Ch.
Kvar Gone A Hunting.
