Pat’s daughter, Chris,
conditioned and trained
Bugs and soon the two
became a team
finishing
an American
Championship in
six shows. From there he went onto many
group wins, placements and an
American
Best in Show. (
This judge was, many years later, to give his
son the Toy Group
the
day he won his Best in
Show.)
In 1994 he was
BOB at Westminster, the
same
year winning both the
MAP and GCPC
Regional
Specialties and picking
up an Award of Merit at
the PCA National
Specialty.
Chris and Bugs went to
Bermuda where in four
shows he finished his
title with four Group
1’s and a Best in
Show,
a
breed record.
"Bugsy" as
Chris called him, lived
with Chris and as he
traveled across the
country he picked up a
very irritating habit.
He
would sleep soundly in
his crate until the
car’s turn signal
began to click.
This would be
followed immediately by
Bugs
whining in excitement.
As the vehicle
rolled to a stop Bugs
thought he had arrived
at a show and started to
accelerate his
whining.
It made one want
to stop using turn
signals!
In fact, Chris
did, and was once asked,
"do people living
in Georgia
ever
use turn signals"
???
In 1995 Bugs left the
comfort of Pat’s home
and headed into Canada
with his co-breeder,
Mary Jo.
At his first show
he won
the
Toy Group from the Open
class and then went on
to Best In Show – his
first of five.
Bugs had
forty-six
consecutive
Best
of Breeds, he won a
Canadian Booster, A Toy
Specialty, a total of
five Best in Shows,
sixteen group 1’s,
fifteen Group
II’s,
four Group III’s and
three Group IV’s.
Like his sire and
grandsire, Bugs is a PCA
Sire of Distinction.
Bugs was the Number One Papillon in Canada and the Number Two Toy for the year 1995.
In September of 2004,
Bugs fell quietly asleep
for the last time.
He will never be
forgotten by his owners,
his breeders or his
many fans.
His legacy lives
on in his son, the BIS
winning Ch. Wingssong
And The Crowd Roared,
and the rest of his
offspring.
His grandson,
Wingssong Alydar, went
Winners Dog at the 2005
PCA National Specialty.
"Bugs" cemented a
lasting friendship
between his co-breeder,
Mary Jo and his owner,
Pat Jones.
Both of whom have
a very
special place in
their hearts for him.
