Roseann Fucillo

Roseann Fucillo joined PCA in 1980

Roseann Fucillo was born and raised in Massachusetts and presently calls Allendale, NJ her home. She holds a BFA from

Massachusetts College of Art, where she majored in Fashion Design and Illustration, and an MA from Seton Hall University.

Along with several teaching certificates, she has also obtained Principal/Supervisor and Student Personnel Services

  certifications.

Roseann started her career as a fashion designer, designing junior sportswear in NYC. She then made a career change to

teaching fashion design which has evolved into teaching high school English, History and Career Education classes.

Roseann has been breeding and showing Papillons under the Cilloette prefix since 1977. She has finished 30 home bred and

three English imports with just a small breeding program, independent of partnerships.

Her life with Papillons started when she had lost her beloved Doberman in 1976, which caused her to search for a "lap dog".

The first Papillon she saw and fell in love with was at Progressive Dog Club’s show in NYC. He was English and American

Champion Melchester Bowman of Lordsrake, J.W., who ironically ended up in her ownership after the death of her dear friend,

  Juan Casals.

Roseann, having an art background, had been intrigued with seeing toy spaniels depicted in the famous paintings of art books

and museums. She went specifically to Progressive Dog Club to see Papillons, meet with breeders, and to compare the breed

with all the other Toys to make sure this was the right breed for her. She first became attracted to Papillons because of their

exquisite beauty, but after seeing them close up she was convinced that was the breed she wanted. She was totally enamored

by their wonderful outgoing personality, affectionate nature and superior intelligence.

Her initial start in the sport of dogs turned out to be disastrous, since she purchased an eight month old "show dog", who was

a monorchid. After having her heart set on getting involved in the sport, she was able to convince the breeder that she should

sell her the gorgeous bitch puppy that previously was not available. This puppy became her foundation bitch, Ch. Viktoria

  Katya, DOM.

Katya, who Roseann called Cassis, was a beautiful white and red sable bitch who had a great pedigree. She descended from

several well-known English and Canadian bloodlines, which included the top winning Jaclair line of several generations of

BIS dogs. Cassis had lovely type, a showy attitude, and a sound body. She finished her championship quickly at eight months

of age, was a top producer in 1985, and was dam of nine Cilloette champions, including obedience titled CH/OTCH Cilloette

Midori and Ch. Cilloette Elixir Di Amore, CD. Cassis also had a son, Ch. Cilloette Papilio Amaretto, who Roseann showed and

finished with a major at Westminster KC.

Roseann has been a member of the Papillon Club of America since 1980 and has served the club in several capacities.

She was Corresponding Secretary from 1985 – 1992, chaired the Education Committee, The Primer Committee, twice served

on the Nominating Committee and twice chaired the Special Awards committee. She has helped to educate judges as well as

novices through presentations, writing educational materials, and presently serves as a PCA mentor.

In her capacity as a dog writer, she began writing regional reports for Pap Talk. She has also written articles that have been

published in Pap Talk, The Papillon ( Butterfly Dog Club ) of England, The Papillon Club of Canada, and New Zeeland

Newsletters, The Papillon Annual, “Pap” pourri magazine, and the AKC Gazette, where she wrote the Papillon column

from 2003 – 2009. Roseann is also a member of the Dog Writer’s Association of America.

Instead of painting and designing, she has merged her love of art with her love for Papillons. She hopes to continue in her

strife to perfect the breed, preserve their beauty, elegance, intelligence and wonderful outgoing temperaments. And most of all,

to keep the breed healthy and safe from harm.
