PJ

LOCATION: ARIZONA
AGE: 4 years old
HEIGHT: 13 inches
WEIGHT: 15 pounds

PJ is a sturdy, playful boy whose favorite thing - next to eating - is chasing his ball. He will play ball for hours if he can find someone to throw it that long! He's also a great lizard chaser and has taken it upon himself to keep the backyard free of any marauding lizards.

This is PJ's second time in Rescue; the first time he was surrendered was because the other male dog in the house and he did not get along, and he also had a marking problem. He was adopted by a loving family, but was recently surrendered back to us because of the family's change of job and living conditions.

PJ is up to date on his shots, and is heartworm negative. He is overweight but we're working on slimming him down. He's a little timid with hands and will shy away from sudden movements, but he's gotten better about that since he's been in his foster home. PJ is a really sweet boy and is a typical Papillon; he follows his foster mom everywhere. He is a talkative boy, and will let you know if he thinks you're taking too long to throw the ball or get his supper ready. He has a loud bark and will bark at noises, but does not bark excessively. He rides well in the car, and does really well on the leash. He would benefit from some obedience training and some socialization, as he does bark at other dogs when on walks. He does still mark occasionally but willingly wears a belly band when his foster mom and dad aren't able to watch him closely. He knows how to use a doggy door, and we think his marking would be mostly eliminated if he were in a calmer home with fewer dogs around. PJ sleeps with his foster mom and dad (and 4 other dogs!) at night and is a very good boy, except he's a bit of a bed hog. He has been around cats and does fine with them, but would probably chase one if the cat ran from him.

PJ would do best in a home that is active but not chaotic. He'd do best as an only dog. He would probably be fine with older children as long as they were patient with him but younger children with their quick movements would make him nervous.
