Foxy

Miss Foxy has not had an easy life. Up until the age of 9, she had spent her whole life in a cage having many litters of puppies. She finally was taken out of that horrible life and was taken to a wonderful foster home that helped her work through her past and found her a loving home. Then at the age of 13 her life was turned upside down again when her family’s home life changed and she was returned to rescue and another foster home. Even through all of this, Foxy has shown her sweet spirit and touched the hearts of everyone who gets to know her.
Being a puppy mill dog for most of her life has left Foxy a little uncertain of people. Even after all this time and even though she loves to be petted, she still flinches a bit when she’s first touched if she’s not expecting it; it’s almost like a surprise to her when she gets gentle touches. And even in spite of that her heart hasn’t given up hope that there are good people who will take care of her and love her. She follows us around the house, comes to us for petting, and she's more than happy to take treats from us, but she doesn't like being picked up and she frightens easily if anyone comes at her too quickly. She will happily curl up to sleep next to her foster mom on the couch when she’s lifted up there, but she shouldn’t be left up on furniture unattended, otherwise she might jump off and injure herself.
Foxy has no teeth, but that doesn't keep her from eating everything that she's given, she just sometimes forgets to keep her tongue in her mouth, which is kind of cute! She's mostly deaf, but can hear when the other dogs in her foster home bark, so she jumps up to investigate what they are barking at. She has a cataract on one eye, but she sees fairly well for her age and she has the most beautiful, soulful eyes that show such gratitude for every kindness given to her. Foxy also has luxating patellas and arthritis in her spine that we treat with medication daily. This helps her get around the house pretty well although she is not able to do stairs. She also has a small mammary tumor that may or may not ever have to be removed, depending on whether or not it gets larger. Other than that, she's pretty healthy for her age!
Foxy is very good about going potty outside when she's given the opportunity to go out very frequently and is given adequate time to get finished (sometimes it takes her a little while), but because of her background, she still sometimes has accidents in the house and she will likely never be fully housetrained. Understandably, she does not like being crated, so when her foster parents go to work, she stays in an expen with potty pads and she always uses those when she needs to; she has never pottied in her bed.
Bed hopping and mealtimes are Foxy’s favorite things in her old age. She checks out every dog bed in the room before finding the best to settle down in for her naps. And when it comes time to eat, she shows the excitement and enthusiasm of a young pup. Every day that we see her enjoying life, is one we are thrilled to be a part of. Foxy’s perfect home would be adults only (and it would be especially nice if someone were home most of the day); no stairs; easy to clean floors; a fenced yard where she can wander around for a while to do her business; and another small, friendly dog who can help her learn the routine of the home.
